Prayer for Peace

September 10, 2016

prayer-for-peace-4On Friday, Sept. 9th our school and church gathered in response to the request of the US Bishops for people of faith join in prayer for the Feast of St. Peter Claver.  This saint Spanish priest who served in South America during the 16th Century. He was a great advocate for human rights of Africans brought to the continent.  In honor of this saint, we responded to the recent acts of violence within our communities and across our nation. Students prepared encouraging signs for peace and prayer. Families of students and from the neighborhood came out to show support. Police officers from the 14th District showed solidarity with the community. Father Chris Walsh led the prayer.  James A. Williams, a St. Raymond School Alumni, 50th Ward Leader from the office of David Oh also provided words of wisdom.  All spirits were lifted when our students sang “Walk In The Light”. We have  hope that our voices continue to reach heaven for the good of our children in Philadelphia and beyond.
