Legacy of Pride 2017

February 27, 2017

Legacy of Pride is an annual tradition in our school used to celebrate African American history. This year our students concentrated on the Civil Rights Movement. Students learned and explored the matter through dramatic performance arts (presentation, song, dance) and creation of expressive objects (collages, drawings, posters).

The evening began with 4th grade performing the history of Africans being brought to the continent and the struggles they faced.  They also learned about music, pop art, political cartoons, and tie dying.  Then guests were invited to visit the living museam where the “exhibits” would come to life as the viewer approached. Students recited important facts about how their character played a role in the movement.  The evening ended with 5th grade telling the story of Civil Rights using songs  and popular dances of the 50s, 60s,  and dances kids are doing today!
